Testing, inspecting, and maintaining fire extinguishers

Portable fire extinguishers can be our first line defense against small fires. You are likely to have one at all times. It is essential that your extinguisher works as it should.

This section can be broken down into three sections: maintenance inspection (testing and inspection), testing and inspection (frequency), as well as information about who is able to perform the work.

Inspection methods

It is important to inspect your extinguisher regularly in order to ensure it works properly in an emergency.

Qualifications

Inspections can be done by anyone competent.

Frequency

NFPA10 stipulates that extinguishers must be inspected within 24 hours of installation and every month thereafter.

Record keeping

Track monthly inspections by attaching tags or writing them down on paper.

These records must be kept for a maximum of 12 months.

Maintenance Procedures

Refer to the manufacturer's instructions. Inspect all elements of the Fire Extinguisher Inspection.

An external exam is required for this process. Instructions on how to conduct an internal exam are found in your manual.

Qualifications

Hydrostatic testing can be dangerous. It is dangerous and must be done safely by those who are involved. They must be properly trained and certified, as well as equipped with all the equipment required to conduct the test.

Frequency

An external inspection must be done on fire extinguishers at least once a year. The inspection should take place at the time of hydrostatic testing, or when there is an inspection discrepancy.

Record keeping

Every fire extinguisher should have a tag or label attached to it that shows that maintenance has been performed

inspection
Extinguishers also need a verification-of-service collar located around the neck of the container if an internal examination was conducted. The collar should have the following:

Hydro static Testing Methods

The internal and exterior examinations of the extinguisher are essential for hydrostatic testing. This is covered in the maintenance section.

Qualifications

Hydrostatic testing can be dangerous. Hydrostatic testing is dangerous.

Frequency

Hydrostatic testing is similar to internal maintenance. You can perform it at any time, depending on which type of extinguisher you have.

Record keeping

Low pressure cylinders should have a label attached.

High pressure high pressure cylinders must have the date and the identification number of the tester stamped on top, shoulder, or head rings.

This guide does not cover extinguisher ITM. Although it is possible to perform monthly inspections,
